Türkiye seized the advantage over the Netherlands with a first-half goal that electrified fans and set the Euro 2024 quarterfinal clash on fire at the Berlin Olympic Stadium.
The action began early, with Türkiye showcasing their offensive power.
In the 11th minute, Ferdi Kadıoğlu delivered a pinpoint pass to Salih Özcan just outside the penalty area.
Özcan’s powerful shot from the right-hand side sailed narrowly over the crossbar, signaling Türkiye’s intent.
Türkiye’s persistence paid off in the 35th minute.
Hakan Çalhanoğlu’s corner kick caused chaos in the Dutch defense, who struggled to clear the ball. It landed at the feet of Arda Güler on the right edge of the penalty area.
Güler’s deft cross found Samet Akaydin at the far post, and Akaydin made no mistake, heading the ball into the net to put Türkiye ahead, 1-0.
The first half ended with Türkiye holding a slender but deserved lead, leaving the Netherlands with all to play for in the second half.
